The largest ever number of students from Impington International College, in Cambridge, have secured conditional offers from the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. In total, 10 percent of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) students received offers to read History, Linguistics, Mathematics and Computer Science and English and Classics from this September.
The competitive application process for both the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge is well-recognised; this year saw greater competition for places at the universities, with an average of seven applicants per place.
Greg M., Year 13 student, who received an offer to read History at Merton College at the University of Oxford, said: “I am so pleased that the hard work has paid off, it feels like such an achievement. From the admissions test to the written work to the interview, I felt assisted by the College during every step. I am incredibly excited to study History in such a historic place, with people who share my same passion.”
Johanna Sale, Vice Principal, Impington International College, said: “I am thrilled for our students who have received Oxbridge offers for September and would like to offer them my heartfelt congratulations. The application process for Cambridge and Oxford is always incredibly competitive and these offers are a testament to their hard work, dedication and commitment during a challenging two years. It is fantastic to see our students going on to study such a wide variety of subjects at degree level, and I truly believe that this is directly linked to the breadth of subjects that they study during the DP.”
Impington International College has been offering the IB for more than 30 years. Through the DP, students must study six subjects; at the College, student can choose from 35 subjects to form their Diploma. This is in addition to the DP core, which comprises theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay, which is designed to enable students to develop skills preferred by universities, such as independence and inquiry.
Leanne Gibbons, Head of Programme CP and Progressions Coordinator, Impington International College, said: “The record-breaking number of Oxbridge offers secured by our students this year is indicative of the quality of their applications. The students should be incredibly proud of their performance during the application process and, while we will miss them, we are excited to see them go on to achieve their dreams. As a state college, I believe we are truly levelling the playing field, because our class sizes are so small, which ensures high contact time with teachers and means that our students flourish academically and socially so they can progress confidently into their next stages of learning and life.”
Impington International College offers a dedicated preparation programme to its students who wish to apply to an Oxbridge university, which includes academic tutoring, interview preparation and personalised guidance from their Sixth Form Lead Tutor.
The College is taking applications for students joining in September 2022. For more information on how you can apply, please visit: https://www.impingtoninternational.org.uk/admissions/
